I've installed HIDs 6K into low beam, just a bit blue, but very white.
very, very worth while. cost 150, put in H3's fitted fine.
However next time, will have to make sure the length of HT cable allows
the controller to be hidden... oops... never mind, only have to swap out if fails once every 6 months... plug and play... 35 watts, but so worth it...
I've also placed 2x55watts for reversing lamps... not really worth it,
going to go for a reversing cam instead...
Also found both my fog bulbs had blown, so am replacing them with 70s or 130s, will also replace my front Side lights to be white LEDs, not sure which ones I'll wire in yet, I'ld like to find ultra brights and replace fog bulbs too.
cheers,
Toad |

I'd hate to be driving in the opposite direction of your car those HID's are nasty on country roads unless your the one driving the car. Must be a nice upgrade over the zeds stock low beam though.. _________________ ABORTTTT ABOOOOOORRRT |

yeah especially driving a zed. drove to the corromandel earlier in the year and it looks like every a**hole has high beams on. i think because everyone had big 4wd trucks and utes it was perfect height to shine straight into my car _________________ it is surprising how well things bounce at 50kph

| Its illegal to retrofit HID lights on headlights not designed for HID. WOF tester won't be happy. |

Well I think its better.
no "glaring", of on coming drivers, they simply allow the built-in projector to work better, just need to place an lcd screen infront of it now...
lots of websites on this... they are H3 D2R type.

The real nasty HIDs are the ones with a small metal shroud over the front of the bulb, Hondas and some Nissans, seemingly exposing the UV's at accute angles. Being as these are fully enclosed, its not the same. |

most wof testers dont even bother checking for hid headlights but if you want to things by the book just buy a set of hid inserts , |

Just make sure your bulbs are the same colour.
Anyone know the reason as to why we can't have different coloured headlight bulbs? |

thanks for the feedback, everyone.
hey, 5tar5cr3am3r
I'm not sure what the HID inserts are, as the low beams are projectors,
what more would I need ?
I'm going to see if I can place the ignitors between the lights and guard where there is a narrow gap, as my cables are to short to place under the centre above the airfilter |

what they do for the 99 jspec hid lights is place the ignition boxs under the headlights. the inserts replace the standard insert behind the glass to so it projects the light better. for the projector lens boosh sell hid spec len's to comply
so in stead of spending $1500 us on hid headlights you can spend $500 nz to do the same thing |

I know it sucks, but be careful about raising the wattage on the fog lamps
The higher the wattage the higher the heat, and the foglamps are made of plastic - 130w bulbs are designed for large spots. I have melted small spots before using too higher wattage bulb - the 70w might work just watch for discoloration over time. _________________ If it's got Tits or Tyres you are going have trouble with it. |

| for fog lights 55w helogens should be bright enough, any thing higher is a waste of time and dangerous for other drivers |

So, this is a very very stupid question....
I'm also thinking about putting HIDs in the Zed (yes I have it back now...) since my low beams decided to go out...both...at once. I have no clue about lights etc etc and have almost no experience working with cars lol. I was thinking, i might as well get the fog lights and high beam done too.
I want something white with faints of blue, yes, tbh, a bit like those hondas....
But I'm unsure of NZ laws, as apparently it says it allows "a hint of blue" or something similarly fuzzy. Does anyone know where I can get these bulbs (is it only a bulb change or the whole headlight unit?) and someone can help me with it in the weekend or something? |
