I'm sure you guys have thrased this one to death but as I was about to source a Apexi filter "thinking" it was the best for my beloved toy I then did the stupid thing and read conflicting reports and opinions .
3A filters seemed to out rank the Apexi, has anyone reached a unanimous/ conclusion about what is the most preferred at least???

There was once a thread made by me which hashed out Pod filter comparrisons some time ago.
http://www.300zx.co.nz/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2537
I came to the conclusion that the Apexi "Power Intake" set was the better option for filtration/HP/Price. Unlike some other pods the Apexi is maintenance free-or a dry type which dosnt need oiling (no risk interfering with the MAF sensor).
I also had turbulance issues by initially opting for the "universal" fit - ideally should obtain the 300zx specific one with brackets to position it (This 300zx specific replacment instantly corrected my stumbling issue mentioned in the comparison topic).
I have no experiance/opinion with 3A filters. I would be interested to know the comparison.
There is an earlier Apexi pod filter which wasnt so good (which I havnt seen sold in along time)
Big "Mushroom pod filters" like HKS Super Flow will allow a lil more flow/HP than say the Apexi Power intake - but the HKS is an oil type and the filtration isn't as great.
Overall cost may also be an issue as some Pod Filters come with metal vs plastic adapters and the option of mounting brackets to better position the pod (to eliminate turbulance issues). |

I've got a massive conversation with Paulson (Pilot.P) in my PMs about this 3A filter.
There was a review in Auto Salon magazine which compared all the brands for filtration and air flow and this one came out top. 3A proudly display it on their web site - http://www.australianauto.com.au/HTML/Images/Air%20Filter%20Shoot%20Out.pdf
I read around and there was one question of bias on I think the Aussie 300zx site, but nothing concrete, the usual forum trolling and difference of opinions.
My biggest worry is filtration, so I'm going to test it! I'm going to buy a 3A filter from Aussie very soon as I'm due for an oil change. I've got a K&N Panel filter on my car at the moment, so I'll take an oil sample from my old oil and get it tested through my work. Then I'll do the same at the next oil change after running the 3A filter and test the oil again. Depending on what the analysis says will make up my mind - if I see an increase in silicates then it's coming off quick-smart!
Results will be published on the forum when the test's done |

Will be lookign forward to the results of this one. I have Mungyz's old pig you drove in Taupo, which has a Pod on it, of, I suspect Japanese origin. Bit tired lookign and probably seen better days, as it still looks a bit grotty even after a service courtesy of my K&N kit for my crewman.
So, I'll be waiting with baited breathe for this, always keen to improve my knowledge of things Z, or as my better half puts it, the useless sh!t I know. |

These days, I'd run K&N in dual pod setup on a Z _________________ My kit car is not a 300ZX, but it does use a 300ZX steering column - does that count? |

In all honesty, I've had a bit of trouble actually buying one!!
I contacted 3A who didn't really want to know and fobbed me off to a company in Christchurch who're they said are the distributors here. Got a reply from them telling me they don't really carry them but could try to get one in for me with about a 4-6 week lead time.
I can buy them online from Aussie, but then add freight from Aus, $40 for a couple of oil tests, and the cost of an adapter to fit it... the cheap filter starts becoming not so cheap!
I'm still really curious to test it, but may now just get a Z1 High Flow Intake with the group buy to be honest. |
